Faulty LED driver? Wattlamp helps you find the right replacement

When an LED luminaire stops working, the problem may be caused by the LED driver.

This is a common situation in professional, industrial, commercial and technical lighting. Many luminaires use drivers from brands such as Philips, Tridonic, Mean Well, OSRAM/LEDVANCE, Inventronics, TCI, Helvar or Vossloh-Schwabe.

The difficulty arises when the driver fails and the original model is no longer available, has been discontinued or has been replaced by a newer generation.

In these cases, choosing a replacement based only on wattage may not be enough.

The driver reference is the best place to start

If the label on the driver is still readable, look for the manufacturer’s full model reference.

Some examples of drivers available from Wattlamp include:

Philips Xitanium 36W 0.3–1A 54V TD;
Philips Xitanium 50W SH 0.3–1A 62V;
Mean Well LCM-60;
Mean Well LPV-60-24;
LEDVANCE OT FIT 40/200-240/1A0 CS;

It is important to include every number, letter and suffix, as similar references may correspond to versions with different specifications. Even products from the same range can differ in voltage, current, dimming, dimensions or connections.

The more complete the reference is, the easier it will be to identify the product and find a suitable replacement.

Is the original driver no longer available?

This is a common situation. A luminaire may have been installed for several years and use a driver that is no longer manufactured or sold.

This does not necessarily mean that the entire luminaire needs to be replaced.

Different solutions may be available:

remaining stock of the original model;
a newer version;
a successor recommended by the manufacturer;
another model with compatible specifications.

Do not choose based only on wattage

Two drivers with the same wattage may have different specifications.

A 40 W driver cannot automatically be replaced by any other 40 W driver.

You should also check:

output voltage and current;
constant-current or constant-voltage operation;
the dimming system, if applicable;
dimensions and connections;
the specifications of the luminaire.
